TDI TurboTwin Air Starters
If you're not moving gas when you press that button, you're losing money. That's why selecting a reliable engine starter is so important. The TurboTwin line of turbine air starters is the recognized leader in dependable starts for the oil and gas industry. They last longer, require no maintenance, and are designed specifically to handle the unique challenges of remote starts.
TurboTwin's are uniquely reliable in the harsh environments of the oil and gas industry. No rubbing parts to stick or swell, and an open air path design with extremely large openings that allow contaminants to pass right through. With so much riding on each start, it makes sense to rely on a starter that lasts longer, requires less maintenance, and is designed for the extended cranking cycles of the oil and gas industry.
In 1979, TDI developed the first turbine air starter, forever changing the air starter business. Years later, TurboTwin air starters have become the number one choice of system packagers and engine end users. No one has more turbine air starters in the field. Choose the original, most reliable, and most specified turbine air starter in the industry.
The TurboTwin T100 Series Turbine Air Starters provide uncompromising performance and reliability for large engines up to 300 liters. Large engines doing big jobs cannot afford starting problems, which is why the TurboTwin T100 Series has been designed for ultimate reliability, durability and long life. The T100 Series can provide reliable starts at pressures as low as 30 psig making it ideal for field gas compressor applications and compressor rental fleet operators. A starter's worst enemies, such as long cranking cycles, contaminated air, and improper maintenance have almost no effect on the T100, because superior design effectively manages these problems.
The T100 Series starters use only high-quality, high-strength steel and aluminum alloys machined to the industry's tightest tolerances. There's no cutting corners, and definitely no plastic parts as used in other turbine air starters. The design features half the moving parts found on other turbine air starters. This yields greater reliability, reduces overhaul, and minimizes potential part repair costs.

TurboTwister T6/T7 air starters are pound-for-pound the most powerful air starters in the industry. Through simplicity in design, the size and weight are remarkably compact for the output it delivers. It delivers more power per unit of air than even our TurboTwin design. And the flexibility to run 45-150 psig/ 3.1-10.3 BAR makes it an affordable solution for application on engines from 20 to 150 liters.
TurboTwister is a study in rugged simplicity. Fewer moving parts. TDI engineered the starter version to include a new solenoid design which is more tolerant to contamination and vibration which are often present in typical applications. The result is TDI’s most rugged, reliable air starter. It will be less susceptible to failure in harsh environments, thereby lasting longer, which will actually reduce the cost of ownership.
TurboTwister is available in three basic configurations:
1) A “starter-only” for retrofitting into existing systems where manual controls and bolt on equipment is already in place.
2) It’s also available as a Plug & Play Starter with Integrated Solenoid and Relay Valve.
3) A full gas compliance version can be purchased featuring 3” NPT Exhaust threading, which allows for a directional “ported” exhaust and fitment of optional silencers, spark arrestors, air diverters, or for piping away hazardous starter exhaust gasses.
TurboTwister T6/T7 starters offer superior flexibility and simple modularity, making industry and regulatory compliances a snap. Where ATEX, USCG C1D2 CSA, CE, and other requirements apply, TDI delivers. The T6 is for air use and can be purchased as an integrated smart starter, or basic starter only. The T7 version is for natural gas or hazardous service, provide configurations from “basic” to “fully compliant.” With threaded NPT outlet and flanged inlet & exhaust connections, installation will be both easy and compliant. TurboTwister modularity gives you exactly what you need - without paying for what you don’t need.

The TurboTwin T30 Air Starters are fast, compact starting solutions for engines up to 20 liters. The T30 generates up to 25% more stall torque than other starters in its class. Its highly efficient twin-turbine motor design gives you more cranking power with less air for faster starts. Unlike starters that require a mechanical automatic trip valve, the T30 uses aerodynamics to control motor speed, giving you total control over the start cycle.
T30-I Inertia Engagement
The T30-I is the inertia engaged version of the T30. It meets high torque, low air/gas consumption requirements and, like the whole line of T30's, is natural gas ready.
T30-P Pre-Engaged
T30-P is the pre-engaged version of the T30. It features a posi-tork drive with over-running clutch, and requires the pilot-controlled TDI TurboValve relay valve.
T30-Y Pre-Engaged Overhung Pinion
The versatile, pre-engaged overhung drive design of the T30-Y was designed for European engines and features metric pinions and a wide variety of mounting options.
